Community Gardens

Syracuse and Onondaga County are home to a variety of community garden projects, with new projects sprouting up each year.

Southwest Community Farm

CCE Onondaga has been a core partner in establishing the Southwest Community Farm on Bellevue Ave. in the Southwest neighborhood of Syracuse. Working closely with Jubilee Homes of Syracuse, a community development not-for-profit that owns and manages the site, Extension has trained youth workers and adult volunteers, generated site plans, and provided advice for crop selection, pest and disease management and harvest practices.

To learn more about the Southwest Community Farm’s history and goals, visit the farm webpage.

Master Gardeners

We also have an active Master Gardener program which trains community members who then volunteer their time to assist with educational programs, staff a free hotline to answer gardening and horticulture questions, and work on community gardening and conservation projects.

Get Involved!

To find a community garden in Syracuse or for help in starting a new community garden, visit Syracuse Grows, a not-for-profit organization that acts as a clearing house and network for community garden projects in the city of Syracuse. Syracuse Grows also maintains a page listing of Syracuse community gardens.

The American Community Garden Association (ACGA) has a database of community gardens across the US and Canada as well as additional resources to support garden development. Search for a garden in your area or list your garden to help people connect with you!
